Care of the Gums
Some people have sensitive gums and tend to feel slight pains. For them, a simple tooth brush can be a pain and can cause gums bleeding. A healthy mouth should not have any problem during the daily oral hygiene and gums should not bleed in any event.
The dental biofilm (bacterial plaque) is the main factor for gingival problems. By eliminating it we will prevent future problems.
People with sensitive or swollen gums need to take special care to prevent biofilm build up, particularly by the gingival edges of the teeth.
If you notice changes in your gums, please visit your dentist as soon as possible. The earliest you solve it, the higher possibilities of recovering the health of your gums and of preventing the development of more complicated diseases.
Some people have a tendency to have gum problems, due either to daily uses or to a genetic predisposition. Just having the wrong oral hygiene habits can cause the development of certain periodontal diseases.
Main periodontal diseases
Gingivitis consists on the inflammation of the gums. It is caused by a deficient brushing that does not remove the bacteria that builds up on the teeth. To avoid this so common disease that usually attacks your gums, you can:
- Use a soft, rounded threads tooth brush and take good care of interproximal spaces that the brush cannot reach. The frequency should be 2 to 3 times a day during 3 to 5 minutes. Brush the gums softly, placing the brush forming a 45o angle reaching gums and teeth.
- Look at your mouth, before, during and after brushing to make sure you have thoroughly cleaned it.
- Reinforce the bones of your mouth eating food Rich in calcium, exercise and avoid smoking.
- Take vitamin A and C. This helps lessen gums bleeding
- Brush your tongue with a tongue cleaner. This way you will sweep microorganisms that usually inhabit there.
- Try and eat raw vegetables every day. Hard and fibrous food clean and stimulate teeth and gums.
- Visit your dentist periodically.
All periodontitis start with gingivitis. It does not affect all teeth in the same way and it is noted by alterations in colour and texture of the gum as well as a higher tendency to gum bleeding when performing the daily oral hygiene. Periodontitis is basically a bacterial infection that affects not only gums but also the supporting structure of the teeth. Bacteria are present in the dental Biofilm. Toxins that grow because of the bacteria irritate the gums and with time they can trigger the detachment of teeth and cause the formation of periodontal pockets that fill with additional toxins and penetrate the bone.
